Suresh Gopi will be appointed as the Chairman of National Film Development Corporation. An official announcement from the central government confirmed this and an order to this effect is expected to be issued soon.

According to the reports, Suresh Gopi had met Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley at New Delhi, prior to the posting. If appointed, Suresh Gopi will be the first Keralite to decorate that position.

NFDC is responsible for selecting foreign films to be screened in India and also for sending abroad films made in different languages in the country. Ramesh Sippy is the current Chairman of NFDC. He took over the position of chairman of NFDC in 2012 by replacing actor Om Puri who was appointed in 2008.
