Veteran Cinematographer-Director A Vincent Passed Away
The veteran cinematographer-director, A Vincent, passed away. He has undergone treatment for age related health issues since last weeks. He was 88 years old. He won the prestigious J C Daniel award for his contributions to Indian cinema.
A Vincent made his movie debut with the Telugu flick Brathuku Theruvu, in 1953. He learned the basics of photography from his father Aloshious Vincent, who was a small scale photographer. Then he migrated to Chennai to learn cinematography. He started his career in Malayalam Films with Ramu Karyat's National Award winning movie Neelakuyil, in 1954. His directorial debut was with Bhargavinilayam, in 1964, which was considered to be the first horror film in Malayalam. Murappennu, Nadhi, Asuravithu, Thulabharam etc. are some of the movies directed by him. He had introduced M T Vasudevan to Malayalam Film Industry through his film Murappennu.
Margaret is his wife. Popular cinematographers Jayanan Vincent and Ajayan Vincent are his sons. Famous art director Sabu Cyril is his nephew.
