Noted, writer, Jnapith, Laureate, screenwriter, Director M. T. Vasudevan Nair has been selected for the J.C Daniel Award for lifetime contribution to Malayalam cinema for 2013. M.T would be the 21st person who is receiving one of the highest award bestowed on a film personality by Kerala Govt. J.C Daniel is regarded as the father of Malayalam Cinema and the J. C. Daniel Award is given in Honour of him. T.E Vasudevan, was the first person that bagged J C Daniel Award in year 1992 while, Director Sasikumar was the latest winner, who passed away recently.  

M. T. Vasudevan Nair has directed seven films and written the screenplay for around 54 films. He won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay four times for: Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Kadavu (1991), Sadayam (1992), and Parinayam (1994), which is the most by anyone in the screenplay category. He was awarded the highest literary award in India, Jnanpith, in 1995 for his overall contribution to Malayalam literature. In 2005, India's third highest civilian honour Padma Bhushan was awarded to him. He has won numerous other awards and recognition including Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award, Ezhuthachan Awardand Mathrubhumi Literary Award. He served as the editor of Mathrubhumi Illustrated Weekly for several years.

Chief Minister Ooommen Chandy will give away the award on October 17 at a function in Kanakakkunnu Palace
