Leela is a bold movie that grows as time passes and haunts the viewer long after leaving the cinema

In Ranjith's 'Leela', the protagonist Kuttiyapan steers his jeep across a multi-tentacled wasteland that ravenously gorges on the very lives that thrive on it. Hope has almost become extinct, souls have long fled the flesh caverns that they dwelled in and angels lie dangling from electric lines. A scalding indictment of the essential barbarity of humankind that has ingeniously been concealed under sly smiles, 'Leela' is as raw as the bleeding bruises that it vehemently rips open.

ലീല എന്ന വായിച്ച കഥയില്‍ നിന്ന് കാര്യമായ വ്യത്യാസങ്ങളില്ലാതെ, എന്നാല്‍ ചിതറിത്തെറിച്ച ആ കഥയെ അടുക്കും ചിട്ടയോടെയും പറഞ്ഞാണ് അതിനു ദൃശ്യഭാഷ്യം രഞ്ജിത്ത് ഒരുക്കുന്നത്.

The wistful fate of Leela can trigger some tears as the final credits roll, but that wouldn't take away the fulfilment of watching an eloquent film.

Leela may carry the buzz that it deals with a controversial subject, but there is nothing objectionable in the film.

Leela has its moments here and there, but is mostly meandering without a specific direction to travel.

Leela stays in your mind like the way the short story haunted you. I would say the movie is a bit more intense.

A wild, haunting, yet classy movie experience. But, at the same time, Leela is not everyone's cup of tea.
